BMWNEF's motorized ponies meet the
throughbreds
Despite temperatures in the
mid 90s, we had a well attended BMWNEF summer picnic at Jim and Paula Quinn's
Bridlebourne Stables near St Augustine on June 12. Millie Stevensen and her
picnic committee did a great job with the planning. Jim Quinn the ever hard working
grill chef prepared hot dogs, burgers and brats non stop. Our thanks to Jim and
Paula for hosting our club at their wonderful horse farm.

BMWNEF
August 1st after Meeting Lunch ride
Valerie
and Bill Robinson are working with Jack Wells to schedule a ride to his place in
Lake City following the August 1st BMWNEF meeting. All BMWNEF members and guests are
invited.
Jack has
a fantastic collection of BMWs and lots of other makes, including three Brough
Superiors. It really is worth the ride. We'll be going mostly on back roads
over there, not on I-10.
Lunch will be catered bar-b-q, and the cost for food and beverage will be only $10
per person.
If you
can join us, please let me know ASAP. Deadline for attendance is Sunday, July
25th. Email
RSVP to motowarrior@comcast.net
We need to make a lot of arrangements, and the sooner we know the size of the
group, the better things will go. Jack will spend about a week preparing for
our arrival! The ride will be held rain or shine. If the weather looks
really bad that day you can come in your car. Your motorcycle, however, will
be confiscated by the club and sold at auction.

10th
Annual BMWNEF Sport Touring School

|
Jennings GP, Jennings FL.
Saturday October
16th (It will be
cooler then)
It is once again time to
start thinking about attending one of the premier events of BMWNEF, the
annual Sport Touring School at JenningsGP in Jennings, FL. Our 10th
annual Sport Touring School will be held this year on Saturday
October 16th. We had a
fabulously successful school last year, with nearly
seventy riders participating. If you have attended the school in the
past, you already know that it is a fantastic opportunity to improve
your riding skills. This
year it will be even better.

"I've gone-a-ride
about"
My excuse is to attend the BMW Motorcycle Owner Association,
International Rally held 15th through the 18th of July in
Redmond, Oregon. The reality is I want to tour the back yard
of America on a motorcycle, camping, meeting new people, visiting old
friends and family.
I look forward to riding from the Sea where one can watch the sun rise
to the Sea where you can see the sun set. Across plains and deserts.
Over rivers and mountains.
I hope to hear crickets and frogs in the early night, and the
birds calling through the mist of first light.
I want to smell the Pacific fog as it rolls in over the
Golden Gate, the fresh thin air cresting the Continental Divide, the
pungent ponderosa pines East of the Cascade Mountains and smoke from a
mesquite fire I cook bacon and eggs on.
I long to see purple clouds reflecting high deserts, orange hews
of deep canyons, lush green canopy's of the world's tallest living
plants and the infinte shapes of Ocean waves.
I want to feel the morning heat rising from the sand 240 feet
below sea level, duck for shelter from the sting of the hale of
a summer storm and the man made wind of traveling out in the
open.
I plan to visit, my mother's sister and sister-in-law, all of
whom watched their husband's go off to "The Great
War" and come back safely, my High School buddy whom
I haven't seen in 47 years and a Navy shipmate who helped shape
my early career.
Know, that I will think about you all often and wish you were
here to share some of the beauty life has to offer.
"I've
gone-a-ride about".
See Ya when I see Ya.

Tech
Day June 26th
 |
Bill Jones,
master aluminum parts polisher and all around great
guy, hosted a Tech Day at
his storage garage on Powers avenue Saturday the 26th.
This is the home of many
of Bill's award winning restoration projects.
About 25 members attended,
many came to learn from watching the projects.
Some were brave enough to
tear into unknown wires, nuts, bolts and oily
thingies.
We all know that keeping
our two wheeled wonders in tip top shape is very Important
for safety and economy. |
| Wayne and Larry ponder the little
known, until recently, mystical art of wheel balancing
a newly mounted tire. |
 |
 |
Jim checks the rear gear lube on his
LT. |
| The true test of any Good Tech Day
is, all the bikes are back together and able to get home at
the end of the day.
Happy to report that this was a
Good Tech Day. |

BMWNEF
Information Technology
If
you've been a volunteer on the Winter Rally, Riding Into History
planning committees, membership or executive committee. You already know
these positions are vital to the club and these are the committees where all the planning and execution of the
club events
takes place.
Another
important part of the club's administration is the computer technology
that helps things run smoothly. We currently have a computer database
for our Membership records, Winter Rally and Riding Into History that helps us
administer the details of BMWNEF. These databases were developed
by volunteer club members and have served our basic needs.
Recently
an IT committee was formed to look into purchasing a more modern new system
that will handle these areas more efficiently and offer members more
convenience. The systems we will be installing over
the next months will be internet based and allow new membership
applications as well as renewals to be done from your home online over
the internet. The Winter Rally registration and Riding
Into History participant applications will be handled in a similar
way. Dues and other payments will be handled by
PayPal and other credit cards. We will continue to accept paper
forms and checks mailed in for those who prefer mail in.
The
transition to this new system will require some new learning for our members, we
will go over the details as we roll out the new systems in the coming months.
If
you have experience with internet based
information systems, Excel or Word Mail Merge and may be interested in helping your
club with the system transition and later system administration,
please let me or one of the club officers know.
Thank
you
